Darl Brown To Violet Red

had come up with the floppy with the original version of Zak McCracken and the Alien Mindbenders. Juancho My friend had found under her bed on a Saturday afternoon, while doing the cleaning. He recalled, had lost that floppy in 1993 or 1994. Knowing my penchant for adventure games (especially for old LucasArts adventures), I gave the disk and said, "Here, here's a Jewel time traveler, from the time of the Commodore 64." I took the record as Indiana Jones lifted the Holy Grail in the film, with a mixture of fascination and respect.

I returned running to my house, full of happy enthusiasm, turned on the PC and put the floppy disk. I installed the game and I immediately started playing. I already knew Zak. What had once played as a child and the world of adventure games was something totally new to me. I thought, now that I'm a player with a little more experience, would have a good time solving the puzzles.

started the game. I scanned the room and all Zak's apartment, collecting everything he could find and then took to the streets. At that time, there was a cutscene, which I already expected in showing a pair of aliens in a secret room, having a conversation high intellectual level.

One of the aliens are there, running a big machine. Then comes another and begin the dialogue. I remember some of the passages, but most do not. Still, I hoped that the dialogue is as I witnessed, which is transcribed as follows:

Alien 1: Hey. Is everything ready?

Alien 2: Yes, almost everything. The machine runs at 100% capacity.

Alien 1: I'm glad. How many humans have on our hands?

Alien 2: Enough to start the attack. But we still lack the most important.

Alien 1: That's true.

Then the two turned Aliens while looking straight ahead and told

the same time: "We miss you, Fede."

I stared at the screen, stunned, thinking that he had misread. "It must be that," he said. They could not have told you my name. They can not having spoken to me. " But then, the Alien 1 said:

"Yes, Fede. You're talking to you. We will conquer all of you, talking monkeys, we will conquer the world and crush their pathetic as cockroaches. You thought you were playing an adventure game? Did you think that we are not only animated characters in a video game in the late eighties? You're wrong! We are very real! And we will prove it. To you and all earthlings.

Then the two aliens began to laugh at the same time, evil. I felt like I was dreaming. But I was also scared. Those big-headed aliens who wore cowboy hats were speaking directly to me me.

The Alien 2 triggered a lever machine and it began to emit a series of strange beeps, very sharp and penetrating.

- Come for you, Fede! Cried the aliens, in a mocking tone. We for you! JA JA JA JA JA JA!

Terrified, I turned off the PC at once, pressing the button. Unplugged immediately. Then remove the floppy disk, threw him with force and crushed with the foot, like a cockroach.

Three days passed before I dared to turn on the computer again. At first I thought the disc contained a virus that when running the game, had infected my hard drive. Half expected to meet all my deleted files or corrupt. But no. Ecendí the PC and everything seemed to work perfectly normal. To be absolutely sure, I ran the virus and then Scandisk ... but all was well. As if nothing had happened.

This led me to think that what I experienced was a figment of my imagination. But no. At heart, I know it was real. Of course, I never got to use the floppy, or the game. And it does not mention a word to Juancho, or anyone, for fear that they believed me crazy. Only today, three years after happened, I dare to tell.

Every time I think about it, I get goosebumps ... What if it's true? What if we're being invaded by aliens look stupid, disguised as mere characters in an old adventure game? Simulate extreme extraterrestrial intelligence into thinking they are harmless, as we are monitoring without us noticing ...

is disturbing. Just thinking about it.
